I calibrated Dirac Live within an Arcam AVR 250 for a customer with a beautiful HiFi system that he integrated with his TV featuring ATC SCM50 Active Speakers, REL 212 SE subwoofer, Auralic Streamer and Project turntable and more toys
The customer had been struggling with some boomy bass which when I measured was the result of excessive bass in certain regions but overall there was a very nice starting point. I used the REL subwoofer to help fill some bass nulls in the speakers frequency response by how I integrated the subwoofer with the ATC speakers using the crossover controls of the subwoofer. This was all before doing anything with Dirac to give me the best overall starting point possible.
This was an interesting system to calibrate because I have only just reviewed the ATC SCM50 speakers which definitely helped to get them setup so that their mid range qualities really punch through and their really very nice and present treble is there and alive like it should be.
The challenge of this calibration was getting the bass just right because it was possible to have set the sound so the bass was ultra tight and focused but a little lean, or set the bass so it was more full and present but then it was a little thick and it could overstay its welcome.
It really took me a long time and a lot of revisions to what I was doing to find an optimum point where the bass was as close to ideal as I could possibly get it, I would not quite until I got it just right.
