I calibrated Dirac Live within an Arcam AVR 30 AV Receiver with Arcam PA720 power amplifier a Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 home cinema system with all KEF R Series speakers and matching subwoofer, an LG OLED TV and other toys.
The customer had already paid what I consider to be an extortionate sum of money to a very reputable dealer to come and do a Dirac Calibration on his system. The person who attended did a horrendous job, the firmware wasnt update properly so the AVR30 was glitching and sounding weird. The calibration was done to a very poor standard and the system was balanced to be all bass and poor bass for that matter.
This was a stark reminder to me and hopefully to you someone saying they can do a Dirac calibration is completely different to someone like me who is totally proficient with it, using it every day and calibrating now hundreds of different systems. Put your money where it is sensible with someone who knows what he is doing.
The customer was so unhappy with the Calibration he wasnt using it and he contacted me in hope I would do a better job as he knew his system could perform to much higher level than it was.
This was an interesting calibration for me as I know KEF speakers very well and could have really pushed the system to sound huge and epic, however the customer was very conscious of his neighbours who have young children so I set the system to be a bit more even handed and balanced in the bass than maybe I would with other calibrations.
I also set the customer a specific calibration as a night mode as he is a gamer and likes to game late at night, the night mode had reduced bass and improved vocal clarity and volume so less overall volume was needed to still be very enjoyable to listen to.
The systems sound was a total transformation with tight and clear bass and an overall totally immersive and balanced sound for music, movies and gaming.
